Saudi Arabia And UAE Dominate Regional Aftermarket Trade

Strong interest seen from global auto parts suppliers in Automechanika Dubai 2013

The auto components trade in the countries of the GCC is currently undergoing a period of considerable growth, with the booming markets of Saudi Arabia being the most significant player.

The pre-eminence of Saudi Arabia in the growth story of the regional auto aftermarket trade was underlined by Mahmut Gazi Billkozen, Senior Show Manager, Epoc Messe Frankfurt, organiser of Automechanika Dubai, who is currently touring the Kingdom to interact with Saudi buyers and auto accessories and parts traders.

According to research firm Frost & Sullivan, official knowledge partner for Automechanika Dubai, auto components consumption across all vehicle categories in the GCC was estimated at SAR 33.18 billion (US $8.85 billion) in 2012 and is set to surge to as much as SAR 54 billion ($14.4 billion) by 2016. This continued growth is one of the factors driving interest in Automechanika Dubai from global auto component and accessories manufacturers and suppliers, said Bilikozen.

The aftermarket trade is dominated by passenger vehicles, which according to Frost & Sullivan composed 85% of the auto components market in the GCC in 2012 – worth as much as SAR 28.32 billion ($7.55 billion). Components consumption for passenger vehicles in the GCC is expected to cross SAR 46.12 billion ($12.3 billion) by 2013, underlining the vast potential that exists.

“The upkeep and maintenance of cars the world over is big business and this is no different across the GCC,” said Ahmed Pauwels, CEO of Epoc Messe Frankfurt. “The region's climate means that batteries, tyres and other such components need to be replaced regularly, which keeps the industry busy. Automechanika Dubai trains the focus of leading international players onto the region's vast potential and enables components manufacturers and suppliers key access to buyers from around the Middle East.”

Research also indicates that Saudi Arabia and the UAE form the largest auto component markets in the GCC, making up as much as 78% in total. Kuwait follows in third place.

“We have enjoyed a robust response from Saudi buyers and traders at Automechanika Dubai over the years,” said Bilikozen. “The exhibition's wide and varied range of products and services and aftermarket supplies of all kinds make it an ideal venue to source and identify supplies and products suited to various needs,” he added.

Long term exhibitor Schaeffler Group will showcase its range of high precision products for everything that moves at the trade fair. Mr. Ioannis Vrantzoglou of Schaeffler Group, said: “We consider Automechanika Dubai one of the best vehicles to reach new markets across the region as the exhibition draws in buyers from a large number of neighbouring countries. We are looking forward to generating considerable new business leads this year.”

Automechanika Dubai comprises of 5 verticals: Parts & Systems, Repair & Maintenance, Tyres & Batteries, Service Station & Car Wash and Accessories & Tuning. The 2013 edition will run from June 11 to 13 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Automechanika is the leading international meeting place for the automobile sector. Automechanika Dubai is one of 12 global Automechanika fairs that are held in Asia, Europe, North America, South America and Africa.
