Dubai Kartdrome hosts another exciting battle under the floodlights

Dubai, UAE, 15 March, 2016: Veteran Hussein Umid Ali and teenager Romaldo Labrooy shared a win apiece in Round 4 of the 2016 SWS Sprint races at the Kartdrome on Monday night, with Omar Aswat and Alex Connor scoring race wins in the SWS Junior races.

In the SWS Seniors, Labrooy qualified third before taking a commanding victory in Race 1, by three seconds, ahead Umid Ali who took second place after a close battle with multiple SWS Champion Atef Al Barwani who had to settle for third.

Pole winner Rami Azzam finished fourth, fending off fifth placed Anjum Sheikh - the latter doing enough to claim top honours in the Masters class.

Sixth place went to Suhail Al Muhairi, ahead of Porus Noshir in seventh and with it claiming second placed Masters driver, Saeed Al Darmaki in eighth, Ahmed Al Hammadi ninth and Anthony Gonsalves rounding out the top ten.

In Race 2, Umid Ali won a thriller from Azzam in second, the pair breaking away from the pack to battle it out for top honours.

Behind them third went to Ahmed Al Hammadi who did enough to fend off Labrooy in fourth. Shaikh was fifth and again bagged maximum points in the Masters class ahead of Noshir who was sixth.

Al Barwani got the better of a four-way battle to claim seventh with Saeed Al Darmaki, Benji Blaber and Sameer Mohideen crossing the finish line in his slipstream.

When the points were tallied up top scorer on the night was Umid Ali with 76 points, Labrooy second with 71 points and the final step of the podium (third) going to Azzam with 67 points.

Earlier in the evening Alex Connor, fresh from his Micro Max triumph at Yas Marina Circuit, continued on his winning ways by powering to victory in the first SWS Junior race after a race long duel with Seif Al Naggar - the pair crossing the line by a mere 0.14 of a second.

Behind them Danny Shields drove a solid race to finish third, ahead of Daniel Pacheco in fourth place, ahead of Arshia Graemi in fifth and Jakob Fitzimmons sixth.

In Race 2 Omar Aswat, who travels to the SWS races at the Kartdrome all the way from Qatar, made his journey worthwhile by taking a well-deserved maiden race victory in the series beating Shields by 0.14 of a second.

This was a strong showing from Aswat who qualified 13th, finished eighth in Race 1 and from eighth on the grid took top honours in the second race.

Fitzimmons also made good progress after a mediocre qualifying to claim third place in the second race, ahead of Kamal Agha in fourth, Jad Charafeddine fifth and Al Naggar sixth.

Shields was overall winner on the day with 69 points from the two races, ahead of Aswat in second with 67 points and third place overall going to race one winner Connor.

Round 5 of the SWS Sprint Series takes place at the Kartdrome on 28 March.
