Stroll Through the Architecture and History of the World at Global Village
New Enhanced Pavilion Facades Represent the Culture and Heritage from 75 Countries
Dubai, UAE, March 24, 2016: Regular guests to Global Village, the region’s leading family destination for cultural shopping and entertainment, would have seen a transformation in the visual impact and look of the 32 pavilion facades during the destination’s 20th season. A walk around the region’s most popular outdoor destination will showcase some of the world’s most memorable and widely known attractions from the moment guests enter the new Gate of the World.
As part of the major enhancements on the guest experience for the celebratory season, every pavilion façade has been given a refreshed and improved look – providing families with an opportunity to see some of the most famous and memorable images and landmarks from countries around the world.
From Europe to Asia, Africa, Americas and the Middle East, the pavilions designs capture an extraordinary range of culture and history ranging from the familiar global landmarks, to reflections of cultural aspects of the countries that are new and educational to young and old alike.
The façade of the Spain Pavilion cleverly bridges the world by reflecting the journey of the explorer Christopher Columbus who discovered the Americas and the new world in 1492 when he sailed across the Atlantic in three ships named Santa Maria, Pinta and the Niña. This remarkable journey is brought to life through both the inside and the outside of the pavilion.
The exterior façade is a combination of wooden colours, sails, ropes and the wooden wheels used to navigate the ships. By the same token, the guests will get the feeling of entering a museum that contains two large screens bringing to life the experience of those on board the ships during the momentous transatlantic journey.
Meanwhile the Americas Pavilion captures the essence of the two continents. Guests heading towards the pavilion will find their eye immediately caught by some of the most memorable and familiar images of the North America including a miniature version of the world famous Empire State Building in New York – at 441 metres high once the world’s tallest buildings. The building was also featured in numerous blockbuster movies which make it appropriate that the façade also includes the instantly recognizable Hollywood sign. Façade of Americas pavilion also captures the famous Mexican hat “Somprero” and the football that is indicating the love of the Northern continent to this sport.
Inside the pavilion there are representations from films such as King Kong and Independence Day coupled with the images reflecting the famous stars to be found on the sidewalks of Los Angeles.
One of the newest arrivals to the international celebration of the world that is Global Village this season is the Japan Pavilion. The façade here reflects the long and varied heritage of the Asian economic powerhouse with a design that is inspired from the famous Osaka Castle that played a vital role in the unification of the country back in the 16th Century.
Open all year round, the castle is a major tourist attraction in Japan especially during the world famous cherry blossom season (Hanami) and the façade design faithfully uses the same colours and design of the castle in Osaka that survived the impact of the Second World War and remained intact.
Few meters away from Japan Pavilion and overlooking the canal at Global Village, the Tunisia Pavilion is one of the most popular and widely visited pavilions in the park. The beautifully designed exterior of this pavilion is inspired by the beaches and luxury lifestyle of the Mediterranean resort of Sidi Bou Said where you can find the houses painted in white and blue. Sidi Bou Said is a major tourism destination in Tunisia featuring highly artistic shades, fountains, ornate poles and arches and is located just 20 kilometres from the capital city Tunis which was originally established in the Middle Ages.
Further east along the North African coast, Egypt continues to be one of the largest and most visually distinctive pavilions represented at Global Village.
Having undergone a radical transformation for the 20th anniversary season, the totally new look façade of the Egypt Pavilion has been created to represent the different stages of the country’s ancient history including the times of the Pharaohs and the construction of the world renowned Salah Al Din Al Ayyubi fortress.
The façade itself also features a representation of the famous Egyptian ruler Mohammed Ali’s additions with its huge poles and domes. It was built by Mohammed Ali Basha according to traditional Ottoman designs in the period between 1830 and 1848. The fortress with the mosque being an significant part of it remained the centre of the government during Ayyubid and Mamluk eras and continued to the era of the Alway family and the well-known Khedewi Ismail.
Wherever Global Village guests may find themselves on the park this season, they will be amazed by the attention to detail of the pavilion facades and how they have captured and brought to life so many nations of the world in a colourful and detailed manner.
