Fashion Week Highlights Spring/Summer 2017

Toronto’s Caten twins from DSQUARED2 take us back to the future with rhinestone encrusted platform boots, bleach splattered denim, and four inch cuffs.  The brand continues to “out do its own self” and this collection is not different.  Finely tailored, edgy, and innovative, the brand stayed true to its hallmarks while pushing the envelope and moving menswear forward.  Blazers, topcoats, and jackets that combined unique patterns, textures and colors made their undisputed mark.  The multi-colored sequin sleeveless shirt is not only magnificent but also one of the sexiest items in the range.  There is so much color, character, and courage infused in each item in the range, we think an ovation is in order. BRAVO, Brothers Caten, we can’t wait for the DSquared2 encore!

FRANKLIN EUGENE’s latest opulent sartorial offering took us somewhere over the rainbow and deep up in to the clouds.  Something about how the entire range works in unison while each piece stands alone creates a floating, buoyant, lightness.  The collection started with its “proverbial feet” planted firmly on the ground - albeit that ground where the evergreen mountain top meets the deep blue skyline - portrayed via an array of shirts, trousers, and shorts.  We began to feel a bit lighter and transition from the mountain tops to the heavens.  Here, ‘The Harold’ entered stage left.  The Harold is an off white wool crepe extra masculine cut one button suit sensation finished with Franklin Eugene’s trademark eight button arm cuff.  Heaven could no longer wait and we would find ourselves in a celestial rapture as a host of off white ensembles entered stage right.  We were floating now and transition with ease to a place where sage wisdom abounds.  Sage prudence was reflected by a plethora of sage colored clothing. This was a home coming of sorts as we return to center stage.  This portion of the range contains everything from the Franklin Eugene Jirt (jacket/shirt) to tuxedos. The Franklin Eugene Global American Design Company took us from the runway to the clouds.

DIRK BIKKEMBERGS offers sporty elegance with its men’s Spring/Summer 2017 collection.  We were smitten by the gold, silver, flag inspired, and multicolored array of shin guards.  The brief cut swimwear styled with leather jackets sparked intrigue for the next silhouettes to come.  Star laden sweaters and jackets along with coordinating leather bags and fashion sneakers were a delight. Blues, pinks, blacks, whites, and greys all converged to make the day!  Properly stitched suiting rounds out the range. One button, two button, and double breasted silhouettes share the runway with shimmering one button shawl collar tuxedos.  Women’s and children’s silhouettes added to the fun, fearless, fabulousness of the event.  The brand’s elegant sport couture continues its game winning streak.

GIORGIO ARMANI was the anchor of Milan Fashion Week and closed out the four days. The range focused on a lovely array of twill trousers, woven grey linen and cotton jackets, as well as deep red pieces to entice onlookers. Those looking for accessories were delighted as models were accessorized with a variety of fedora style hats, caps, sun glasses, traditional lace-up footwear and even red shiny slippers.
