18 January 2017, Abu Dhabi, UAE: Attended by His Excellency Eng. Suhail Al Mazrouei, UAE Minister of Energy and Chair of the UAE National Committee, His Excellency Dr Matar Al Neyadi, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and the Chair of the Organizing Committee signed today the Project Management Office (PMO) contract with Energy Events Experts (E3) to support the work of the Committee and ensure the efficient delivery of this milestone event for the UAE energy sector.
Held every three years and positioned as the flagship event of the World Energy Council, the World Energy Congress is the longest-running and most influential energy event in the world, covering all aspects and scopes of the energy sector across the world. The Congress brings together Heads of State, Energy Ministers from around the world, as well as global energy leaders and stakeholders to lead the global energy debate.
The next World Energy Congress will take place in Abu Dhabi, following a successful international bid that Abu Dhabi won at the Executive Assembly of the World Energy Council in 2014. The Abu Dhabi Congress will be held from 7 to 14 September 2019 and is envisioned to be the most successful World Energy Congress in history since its inception in 1924.
“When the UAE decided to enter the bid to organize the 2019 World Energy Congress, it did so to with the vision to deliver the best Congress in its more than 90 years of history,” said His Excellency Minister Al Mazrouei. “Today, we appoint the experts that will ensure that the vision of success of the 2019 World Energy Congress vision is delivered.”
Following a competitive tender held in 2016, the Organizing Committee appointed Energy Events Experts (E3), a team of leading professionals with over 20 years’ experience in delivering premium events for the energy sector worldwide as PMO and promoter of the 2019 World Energy Congress on behalf of the UAE Organizing Committee.
“The planning and execution of a global event of this magnitude requires sophisticated organizational and execution skills, as well as an in-depth understanding of the energy sector, said His Excellency Dr Matar Al Neyadi, Chair of the Organizing Committee. “We conducted a thorough process to learn the key lessons of preceding Congresses and identified a need to bring an experienced PMO to support the complex work to coordinate thousands of energy stakeholders from around the world, as well as a multifaceted group of event-related organizations. Appointing the PMO three years in advance will ensure the efficient and viable delivery of the best World Energy Congress in the history of the World Energy Council,” said His Excellency Dr Matar Al Neyadi, Chair of the Organizing Committee.
During the event, His Excellency UAE Minister of Energy and Chair of the UAE National Committee to the World Energy Council also described the key entities responsible for delivering the 2019 World Energy Congress in Abu Dhabi, composed of the Steering Committee heated by HE the Minister to overseen the preparation for organizing the 2019 Congress and the Organizing Committee chair by HE the Undersecretary to work with E3 and Secretariat of the WEC to organize Abu Dhabi Congress .
The E3 leadership, represented by Alexis Neron-Bancel, E3 Managing Director, conveyed that all their energies would be devoted to delivering the best possible World Energy Congress for all the stakeholders involved and that it was indeed an honor to play a fundamental role in this prestigious and challenging project.
Abu Dhabi will join the exclusive list of cities that have hosted the World Energy Congress since 1926, where only a selected list of 23 cities so far have hosted this prestigious and truly global event.
The 2019 Abu Dhabi World Energy Congress will be the first Congress to take place in a MENA country. Also, the UAE will be the first OPEC country to host this crucial event for the energy sector. This confluence of unique factors will support the objective of the Organizing Committee to deliver a unique platform for energy stakeholders covering all perspectives of the energy industry, to convene in Abu Dhabi in 2019 to strategically address the issues impacting the energy sector and continue to lead the global energy debate.
The 2019 World Energy Congress will join other world-leading energy events hosted in the UAE, such as ADIPEC, WEFS or WETEX, to make 2019 a genuinely critical year for the energy sector in the UAE and position the nation as an epicenter for the future of energy.
