IDEX & NAVDEX 2017: The UAE Armed Forces inks 90 deals worth more than AED 19.1 billion

Abu Dhabi-UAE: 25 February, 2017:  Today marks the fifth and last day of the 13th edition of the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX 2017) and the fourth edition of the Naval Defence Exhibition (NAVDEX 2017).

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, IDEX and NAVDEX 2017 were organised by Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) in collaboration with the UAE Armed Forces.

The 2017 edition of both, IDEX and NAVDEX, recorded an all-time high in participation from exhibitors, companies and national and international delegations. The biennial events witnessed over 1,235 exhibitors from all over the world and the UAE Armed Forces inked 90 deals worth AED 19,177,443,973 making it the largest edition and most successful since debut in1993.

Over the past five days, the two exhibitions noted high turnout for all activities, side-line events and live military performances, noting over 105,400 visitors, exhibitors from 57 countries and a total of 1,000 local and international media representatives.

The first day of IDEX and NAVDEX 2017 witnessed 21 deals worth more than AED 4.416 billion, 15 of which were with national companies and the remaining six with international companies.

The second day saw the highest dirham amount, the additional 10 deals were valued at more than AED6.919 billion. The deals were evenly split between national and international companies, five deals each.

The third day drew the most number of deals, 31 deals were signed valued at more than AED 4.075 billion. National companies were awarded 19 deals and the remaining 12 with international companies

The fourth day penned 20 additional deals worth more than AED 3.422 billion. The deals were split as follows 13 with national companies and the remaining seven with international companies.

The fifth and final day inked eight deals worth more than AED 344 million. Five deals were with national companies and the remaining three with international companies.

His Excellency Staff Major General Pilot Faris Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee of IDEX and NAVDEX 2017, said: 'I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces for his patronage of IDEX, which in-turn underpinned the recognisable growth achieved and continued driving the exhibition the largest specialised tri-service defence event in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. I would also like to thank His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces for attending and supporting the ceremonies and exhibits.”

His Excellency Al Mazrouei also thanked Rulers, Crown Princes, Sheikhs, dignitaries, international delegations and military personal for attending IDEX and NAVDEX 2017. Moreover, he recognised and lauded all the civil and military government agencies that participated in organising the successful five day event.
Major-General Staff Pilot Ishaq Saleh Al Balushi, Deputy-Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee of IDEX and NAVDEX 2017 thanked the Higher Organising Committee of IDEX and NAVDEX 2017 and all other participating committees including national institutions and governmental bodies for their keen efforts over the past five days to execute effective exhibits befitting the reputation of Abu Dhabi and the UAE as a whole.

For his part, Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, Group CEO of Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) said: “I thank and appreciate the UAE leadership for its ongoing support and direction to boost the national defence sector and re-affirm the UAE an industry hub.”

Furthermore Al Dhaheri expressed his gratitude to the UAE Armed Forces, the exhibits’ strategic partners Emirates Defence Industries Company (EDIC) and principle partners Tawazun Holding and Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB), national private and public institutions and media representatives for all their effort, commitment and dedication leading to the success of IDEX and NAVDEX 2017.

He added that both exhibitions served as an ideal platform to foster partnerships and long-term relationships between governmental institutions, defence companies and armed forces. The 2017 editions of IDEX and NAVDEX attracted a larger number of companies and visiting delegations which in-turn solidified Abu Dhabi the preferred destination for business tourism and directly and indirectly contributed to economic growth and sector development.

The total area dedicated to the two exhibitions expanded to 53,532 square metres, up by five percent compared to the previous edition.

It’s worth mentioning that IDEX and NAVDEX are held every two years, the next edition will run from February 18-23, 2019.
