This Thing About Mindfulness
As a leader of a multicultural team I find it very useful to practice mindfulness on a daily base with my team. We do this together in our daily briefing and it only takes about 5 min. This gives us a positive start of our working day and brings the team closer together. In the article below you will find some easy guidelines on how you can start practice mindfulness.
What is Mindfulness: Mindfulness is a state of active, open attention on the present. When you're mindful, you observe your thoughts and feelings from a distance, without judging them good or bad. Instead of letting your life pass you by, mindfulness means living in the moment and awakening to experience.
Where do I Start : Sit comfortably on a chair, with your feet touching the ground & with your palms relaxed your thighs.
Start by bringing awareness to your senses: how does your cloths feel against your skin, what does the room smell like (rather than describe or think about it, just enjoy actually smelling it), notice any sounds that you may hear.
Notice how we use our senses to help keep us aware of this moment.
You can also use your own body in this way: bringing your awareness to rest on the sensation & the feel of the floor against your feet, the sensation of your breath moving, etc.
Whenever your mind wanders, just notice it and gently, with no judgment, bring it back to your senses.
Do it for just a few minutes at a time but in those few minutes, try to get completely absorbed in your awareness of that moment.
