Montblanc introduces collection of limited edition writing instruments, leather goods, jewellery and watches in support of UNICEF’s literacy and education programmes
Dubai, UAE, 6th April 2017: The same passion for writing that gave birth to Montblanc over 110 years ago has shaped the Maison’s belief that writing is a precious gift that has the power to change the world. While it is every child’s human right to be able to learn to read and write, many children don’t have access to basic education. Reaffirming its long-time support of UNICEF’s education and literacy programmes, a partnership that began in 2004, Montblanc introduces a new collection of writing instruments, leather goods, jewellery and a timepiece, each with a hint of blue sapphire and an alphabet-inspired design, celebrating the preciousness of writing as a force for good.
Montblanc, through its partnership with UNICEF, aims to help improve learning for over five million children. The funds raised by the initiative will help UNICEF to support national education quality standards that cover pedagogy, reading and writing, the learning environment, community involvement, infrastructure and measuring of learning outcomes. In addition, funds will go towards teacher training programmes, as well as guidance and tools to ensure teachers have the knowledge necessary to deliver quality education to students.
Montblanc Meisterstück: Writing is a Gift
The new collection takes the Meisterstück, the most iconic of writing instruments and gives it a new design inspired by the Rosetta Stone, one of the most significant objects in the history of the written word. Not only did it become the key to unlocking the meaning of hieroglyphs and understanding the culture of ancient human civilizations, with its multilingual inscriptions, this ancient artefact was also one of the first signs of international understanding and cooperation. Because writing is not specific to a language or region but universal, the diversity of world languages is represented in the design of the new collection by six characters. These beautifully handwritten characters are in fact the first letters children learn to write at school in six different languages from around the world: A (Roman), ? (the Chinese sign for ‘you’), (the first character of the Arabic alphabet), ? (the Japanese vowel ‘a’), (a combination of the first Korean consonant and vowel) and (the first Hindi character learned by children). The alphabet motif is interpreted through different design variations and the different writing instrument sizes that make up this purposeful writing collection.
Classic and elegant, the Meisterstück, Writing is a Gift Precious Resin Edition features a cap and barrel in the distinctive Meisterstück polished black resin, contrasting with the writing instruments platinum-coated fittings. The cap top is engraved with the first letter of the six most used alphabets in the world, a symbolic reference to the early stages of education when children learn to write their first ever character. Alongside the letters that encircle the cap, a single precious blue sapphire celebrates the bond between Montblanc and UNICEF. The bicolour Au585 gold handcrafted nib enriches the beautiful writing experience carrying the Montblanc emblem. Available in Fountain Pen LeGrand, Rollerball LeGrand, Ballpoint Midsize, and in the smaller Fountain Pen Classique, Rollerball Classique and Ballpoint Classique, each writing instrument is crowned with the Montblanc emblem, a promise it will deliver the utmost writing experience. The Meisterstück, Writing is a Gift Doué Classique Edition combines the sleek classicism of a traditional precious black resin barrel with a metal cap elegantly decorated with a mosaic of alphabet letters. Mirroring the appearance of the Rosetta stone with its intricate lines of characters, the design has been masterfully etched on the metal of the cap. Available in Fountain Pen Classique with a rhodium-coated Au 750 gold nib, Roller Ball Classique and Ballpoint Classique, each piece features the six characters encircling the cap top, enhanced with the signature single sapphire in UNICEF blue.
The classic black gives way to vibrant blue for the Meisterstück, Writing is a Gift Blue Solitaire Edition with both cap and barrel adorned with an elegant pattern created from the characters engraved on a blue lacquer background punctuated with fine silver colour lines. With its generous proportions and precious finishes, including a generous 1.9mm sapphire set in the cap top, the Blue Solitaire Edition comes in a Fountain Pen LeGrand with a bicolour Au 750 gold handcrafted nib, as well as a Rollerball LeGrand and Ballpoint Midsize. Because an exceptional cause warrants an exceptional design, the Meisterstück, Writing is a Gift Skeleton 149 Edition expresses through the most precious materials the priceless gift of writing that should be the right of every child. Montblanc takes the alphabet motif to new heights, by crafting a platinum-coated three-dimensional skeleton out of the six characters, allowing the precious blue resin underneath to shine through the elaborate sculptural design. These characters reappear engraved on the cap top, which is made of precious mother-of-pearl and onyx and decorated with a dazzling 2.5 mm blue sapphire. Symbol of a meaningful cooperation over the years, the six alphabets letter come together to embellish the Au750 white and yellow-gold nib.
