Abu Dhabi Ports recognised for exceptional Security Management; Receives ISO 28000 Certification

Abu Dhabi-UAE: September 13, 2017:  Abu Dhabi Ports, the master developer, operator and manager of commercial and community ports within the emirate of Abu Dhabi, in addition to Fujairah Terminals at the Port of Fujairah, and Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (KIZAD), has been accredited with the ISO 28000:2007 certificate of Security Management System for Supply Chain by global certification provider, Lloyds Register Quality Assurance (LRQA).

LRQA assessors independently audited the security management system that has been put in place at Khalifa Port, Zayed Port, Musaffah Port and Abu Dhabi Ports Headquarters.  Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports, received the certificates at the Abu Dhabi Ports headquarters, for all four sites in tandem.

The security management system is required to review the risks and challenges related to important aspects of security and threats, including piracy, terrorism and theft. The aim is to equip managers with the knowledge essential for effective supply chain management and risk mitigation.

Commenting on this achievement, Captain Al Shamisi said: “Abu Dhabi Ports places strong emphasis on operational excellence in line with Abu Dhabi Government’s vision towards sustained excellence across all its business units and services offerings. This ISO 28000 accreditation is an additional step in towards our obligation towards maintaining our position as a trusted and reliable business enabler, which only further raises trust and confidence of our customers and stakeholders in our organisation.”

Mr. AbdulKareem Al Masabi, Executive Vice President-Ports commented: “We have come a long way since the formation of Abu Dhabi Ports 11 years ago. We have metamorphosed from operating one key port to managing multiple ports nationally and internationally.  We are very proud to have earned the certificate, as it is a true reflection of the ongoing dedication and commitment of our entire team, to maintain high operational standards.

ISO 28000:2007 is the latest standardised security certification in supply chain by ISO. The certificate is applicable to all sizes of organisations in manufacturing, service, storage or transportation during any stage of production or supply chain. Supply chain security management does not stop at certification.  Annual compliance monitoring allows our business to better assess security risks and manage new threats as they emerge, ensuring minimum risks at all fronts.
