DMCA to showcase local maritime sector's milestones to the global maritime community during UAE Maritime Week 2018

Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, the Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) is set to host the UAE Maritime Week 2018 from October 28 to November 1, 2018 to promote the UAE’s global status as a first class maritime destination and enhance Dubai’s competitiveness as one of the world's leading maritime clusters.

H.E. Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman of the Ports, Customs & Free Zone Corporation and Chairman of DMCA, thanked H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for his continuous support to the biennial maritime event, the first of its kind in the region, organized to strengthen Dubai's leadership and reputation as an ideal destination for the world's leading maritime events. He explained that the UAE Maritime Week 2018 highlights the local maritime sector’s achievements on the international stage. He added that the continuous successes of Dubai and the UAE are in part due to the unlimited support of the country’s wise leaders who envision an innovative and sustainable maritime sector, considered an economic pillar fundamental to the UAE’s transformation to the post-oil economy.

H.E. Bin Sulayem added: “The UAE Maritime Week forms part of our tireless efforts to create a global profile for and enhance the competitiveness of Dubai maritime sector. The event is an important national platform that allows for the exploration of the industry’s future in a bid to position the UAE as the world's most competitive, comprehensive, and exclusive maritime center.”

This reflects our commitment to help create an effective communication mechanism to link key international maritime community leaders, adopt the best international practices and innovative solutions for a competitive, inclusive, and attractive maritime cluster, and enhance the country’s economic development and renaissance.”

The UAE Maritime Week 2018 will feature a series of world-class events such as the ‘Dubai Maritime Summit 2018’ where the second edition of the ‘Dubai Innovation Awards’ will be launched to honor the most valuable contributions and innovative initiatives that are boosting the growth, development, and prosperity of the local maritime sector. It will also include the ‘Maritime Leaders' Future Seminar;’ the ‘Maritime Arbitration Conference;’ the ‘Middle East Sea Trade Maritime Exhibition,’ the Middle East's largest maritime exhibition; and the ‘Middle East Sea Trade Awards.’

Amer Ali, Executive Director of DMCA said: “The UAE Maritime Week 2018 is a continuation of the DMCA’s milestones in an effort to build Dubai and the UAE’s global reputation; provide a strategic platform to enhance international cooperation; find effective solutions to challenges; and open new horizons by adopting innovation and smart technology to support the local and global development of the maritime sector. The region's unique national event will facilitate transmission of knowledge, experience and best practices among the world's top decision-makers and maritime industry leaders, in addition to unifying all joint efforts and bringing the global maritime economy to a new level of growth.”

He added: “We are committed to hold similar initiatives and events aimed at highlighting the potentials of the local maritime cluster in line with our national aspiration to place Dubai and the UAE on the global map.”
