City, University of London expands aviation course offering, meeting Gulf demand for skilled professionals

  •      Launch of an MSc in Airport Management is designed to ensure quality training of airport managers in the region
  •     All course modules are offered in City’s Dubai facilities at the DIFC

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 8 May 2018:  City, University of London’s Dubai Centre has announced the launch of a Master of Science (MSc) in Airport Management for junior managers looking to boost their career prospects in today’s fast-growing airport industry.

Starting in September, this course has been designed to cater to the growing demand for skilled aviation professionals in the Middle East and around the globe.

It has been tailored to fit around a full-time working schedule, and will be delivered by industry experts and leading academics from City’s School of Mathematics, Computer Science and Engineering.

This part-time course is ideally suited for those working in the operation, maintenance, support and regulatory sectors of the airport industry and wish to move into a managerial role, in order to make a significant contribution to their organisation.

From learning how to run an airport efficiently to overseeing all aspects of an airport’s operations, this degree will equip students with the skills necessary to meet the economic and sustainability goals of an aviation organisation.

While each of the mandatory eight modules are offered at the Dubai Centre, students have the option to attend some modules in London or Frankfurt.

This degree is supported by the Airports Council International (ACI) World, and can be completed in three years.

The course does not require a bachelor’s degree for entry, however applicants must have at least two years of industry experience, along with an ACI diploma or another relevant aviation license.

Given the high volume of passenger traffic in the region, with Dubai Airports in particular expected to reach 90.3 million passengers in 2018, it has become increasingly important to develop the capabilities of airport managers.

Captain Tilmann Gabriel, Director MSc Aviation Management courses, commented: “We are excited to be able to offer the new MSc programme which has been approved by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority here in Dubai.

Next to getting ready for an executive position in the airport industry, the students attending our programmes form a lifelong network of industry peers.

We expect to attract airport managers from around the globe to join this ACI-backed postgraduate programme.”

Dr Kevin Dunseath, Regional Director MENA and Director Dubai Centre, said: “The aviation sector is of increasing importance both in the MENA region and globally.

This new programme in Airport Management represents a significant addition to the portfolio of MSc aviation management offered through City’s Dubai Centre.”

With over 1500 alumni and a proven track record of enhancing career opportunities in aviation, City, University of London has become the academic institution of choice for industry professionals.
