Leading global brands & law firms recognize DED-Ajman's remarkable deeds

UAE, 13 May, 2018 - The Directorate of Control and Consumer Protection of the Department of Economic Development - Ajman (DED-Ajman) received a note of recognition from the representatives of leading international brands and law firms, including Tamimi & Co. and Louis Vuitton, for its efforts to protect consumers and constantly monitor the quality of goods. The Department was hailed for its regular inspection campaigns, seizure of fake goods, counterfeit products and actions taken as per the law, thereby securing the consumer markets in Ajman.

Majed Al Suwaidi, Director of the Customer Relations Department of DED-Ajman thanked Tamimi & Co. and Louis Vuitton for the appreciation, underscoring DED-Ajman’s commitment to including its departments and divisions in ensuring the safety of goods in the outlets and shopping centers and their compliance with quality standards. This forms part of the Department’s mission to establish a secure investment environment in Ajman’s shopping centers and preserve the rights of authorized outlets to sell popular quality brands.

Al Suwaidi also emphasized the efforts of the Department towards creating a fair consumer and investment environment that supports economic growth by imposing penalties on violators and thereby reduce commercial fraud practices. These measures help maintain balance between consumers, traders and trademarks rights, and create a safe and competitive environment to support the development of the vital economic sectors.

Al-Suwaidi added: “The Department is working on intensifying inspection and monitoring campaigns in an organized and planned manner throughout the markets of Ajman, based on a comprehensive and integrated field plan devised by a team of qualified inspectors from the Directorate of Control and Consumer Protection, which reflects DED’s keenness to detect and combat all manifestations of commercial fraud and reduce instances of malpractices by some traders.”

Xx, from the delegation representing the Directorate of Control and Consumer Protection, noted his gratitude for the recognition awarded to the Department….

During its visit to DED-Ajman’s headquarters in the Corniche Building, the business groups awarded a trophy to the Department, commending on the remarkable preventive measures taken by the Department to protect consumers rights and globally known luxury brands through its efforts in seizing imitation products, which helped reduce commercial fraud. The meeting also highlighted the continuity of coordination and cooperation to combat commercial fraud and the reduction of counterfeit goods in Ajman.

The Department had recently announced the seizure of 41,327 counterfeit goods of more than 40 leading brands with a financial value of AED 82,655,400 million. This was followed by taking necessary actions against violators in accordance with local and federal laws that prevent fraud practices in various forms and trade of counterfeit goods, which is a clear violation of the law and a threat to the safety of consumer rights.
