Sharjah, September 29, 2019: The Visiting Consultants Office (VCO) at the Ministry of Health and Prevention had organized a lecture and a workshop at Kuwait Hospital in Sharjah on the impact of mental disorders on the academic achievement of young students.
The event targeted medical, administrative, and technical staff at Kuwait Hospital in Sharjah.
Dr. Sultan Al Sharif, Director of the MoHAP’s VCO, mentioned the importance of benefiting from the visits of experienced doctors and consultants under the Visiting Consultants Program, through holding lectures and awareness workshops in parallel with the provision of health services to patients in hospitals.
Al Sharif added that the lecture was on the impact of mental disorders on the academic achievement of students, noting that the lecture is delivered by Dr. Marwan Tabbara, a Visiting Consultant and Clinical Assistant Professor, Division of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine, Michigan State University.
Spreading Mental Health Awareness
He added: “The lecture underpins MoHAP’s programs on the spreading of mental health awareness, according to an effective holistic system that works to provide preventive, therapeutic and rehabilitative services, and continue to scale up mental health services to compete with the global levels.”
In his lecture, Dr. Tabbara shed light on the impact of biological and physiological, social, cultural growth factors and how this influences educational attainment, in addition to the causes of behavioral deviations and mental disorders, stating that mental health of students plays a vital role on educational attainment and academic level.
