Dubai, 8th Feb 2015: As the international community paused on World Cancer Day to remember the millions of preventable deaths caused by the disease, Gulf Diagnostic Center Hospital (GDC Hospital), a full-fledged medical facility joined hands with its partners to create awareness about the dreaded ailment.

The noble initiative was flagged by Ms. Jamal Kaddoura, the Co-founder and Hospital Director in association with ten pharmaceutical companies operating under Al Razi Pharmacy Company. The initiative strongly focused on highlighting the extensive range of measures needed to efficiently prevent, treat and control the many forms of cancer including the three most common ones Cervical, Breast and Colorectal.

Commenting on the initiative, Ms. Jamal Kaddoura, Co-founder and Hospital Director said, “The presence of doctors, volunteers, partners and our staff has reinforced the goal of the initiative as all joined hands together for a common cause. The main aim was to encourage a majority of people to educate themselves on healthy eating habits, screening and early detection and maximizing quality of life as a few easy steps to brawl the sickness. Our event was not aimed at broaching, but it intended to break barriers and encourage more people to undertake regular examination. I would also like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Health Authority of Abu Dhabi (HAAD) for their extensive co-operation in believing and helping us execute the event with a positive difference.”

The event kicked off on 4th February witnessed presence of over 200 citizens, nursing and medical staff. The visitors present at the event had access to expert opinions and necessary information on cancer and its symptoms. The participants at the event were also given free vouchers for Colonoscopy that helps detect Colorectal Cancer, Pap Smear that aids women suffering with Cervical Cancer and Mammogram that identifies Breast Cancer. It is noted that approximately 70% of cancers are preventable.* Regulating positive changes in lifestyle and early detection of the disease can go a long way towards this. In addition, visitors also had access to free blood pressure, sugar and weight tests.

Leading global public health experts from the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) announced that an increased annual international community funding of approximately US$18 billion globally could save three million lives per year by 2030 and many more in succeeding decades, through prevention, earlier detection and improved care for cancer patients.**
