Dubai, United Arab Emirates - 10 June 2024: Oris announces the release of a limited new timepiece created in partnership with the Reef Restoration Foundation, an Australian non-profit organization, dedicated to the conservation of the Great Barrier Reef. Established in 2016, the Foundation has been at the forefront of coral planting initiatives to mitigate the impact of warming oceans and coral bleaching on the world's largest and most diverse reef system.
Oris partnered with Reef Restoration Foundation in 2018 on their mission to bring Change for the Better. “Oris is climate neutral and committed to the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals,” says Co-CEO Rolf Studer. “Supporting the Reef Restoration Foundation is a joy and we’re delighted to shine a light on their work to counter the effects of climate change on the world’s reefs.”
This exclusive 2,000-piece limited-edition watch is based on the next-generation Aquis and marks the first limited-edition Aquis Date 43.50 mm to feature Calibre 400, Oris groundbreaking five-day automatic movement. The unique design includes a gradient dial with the gradient falling from 12 o’clock, creating a visual effect that mirrors the turquoise and blue waters of the Great Barrier Reef and the refraction of sunlight through water.
Climate change has had a devastating impact on the world’s coral reefs. According to the Australian Institute of Marine Science, 73% of surveyed reefs in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park exhibit prevalent bleaching. In March, the Great Barrier Reef experienced its fifth mass bleaching event, where elevated water temperatures caused coral to expel the algae living in its tissues, turning it white and leading to potential death if conditions persist.
Coral reefs, although they cover less than 1% of the ocean, are home to nearly a quarter of all ocean species. These species are crucial for maintaining the health of our oceans, which produce 70% of the world’s oxygen. Reefs also contribute trillions of dollars annually to the global economy. Their survival is vital for the health of our planet.
The limited-edition Oris Aquis Date 43.50 mm is now available at selected Oris retailers worldwide and on our official website. With only 2,000 pieces available, this unique timepiece is a true collector's item https://www.oris.ch/en-AE.
