- The Council commends UAE's success in achieving the highest growth rate in the field of organ transplantation in the Gulf
UAE, Dubai January 30th, 2025: The Health Council has discussed ways to boost coordination and integration across the country’s healthcare sector, including the launch of innovative projects that aim to create a more flexible health system.
During a meeting chaired by H.E. Abdulrahman bin Mohamed Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention, and attended by senior health officials from both the public and private sectors, council members explored strategic approaches aimed at developing a flexible health system built on advanced methods and future-ready service standards.
The council meeting took place on the sidelines of the 50th Arab Health currently taking place in Dubai from January 27 to 30. The meeting also reviewed the UAE's significant achievements in healthcare, made possible thanks to the directives of the country's leadership in line with the 'We the UAE 2031' vision.
Leading health projects
The council discussed a series of flagship initiatives, including the completion of a unified licensing project for health professionals, the establishment of the UAE Council for the Accreditation of Healthcare Facilities, and the National Health Cloud project. They also reviewed plans for a health sciences scholarship platform, set to launch in the second quarter of this year. Additionally, the council examined a project aimed at setting standards for the medical use of artificial intelligence.
Council members commended the UAE for achieving a brain-dead organ donor rate of 11.6 per million people—the highest among GCC nations—along with an annual growth rate of 30% in organ donation and transplantation. This significant milestone bolsters the UAE’s position as a regional hub for organ donation and transplantation services, driven by sustainable growth and comprehensive health insurance coverage policies.
Competences of the Council
Committed to shaping the future of the UAE’s healthcare system, the Health Council’s competences include foreseeing global developments and implementing innovative strategies. It also ensures effective coordination between federal, local, and private stakeholders for integrated and high-quality service delivery.
Additionally, the council is tasked with enhancing health policies and legislation to reflect global standards, while forging partnerships with regional and international health institutions to achieve shared objectives.
Driving health leadership
The council has become a platform for collaboration, combining national efforts to deliver healthcare services that are sustainable and of exceptional quality. By prioritizing the importance of scientific research and working closely with the Ministry of Education and academic institutions, it is paving the way for a stronger and more innovative health sector.
