IATA Releases 2017 Airline Safety Performance

Dubai, UAE, February 24, 2018:  The International Air Transport Association (IATA) released data for the 2017 safety performance of the commercial airline industry showing continued strong improvements in safety. The all accident rate (measured in accidents per 1 million flights) was 1.08, an improvement over the all accident rate of 1.68 in 2016 and the rate of 2.01 for the previous 5-year period (2012-2016). The 2017 rate for major jet accidents (measured in jet hull losses per 1 million flights) was 0.11, which was the equivalent of one major accident for every 8.7 million flights. This was an improvement over the rate of 0.39 achieved in 2016 and also better than the five-year rate (2012-2016) of 0.33.  There were 6 fatal accidents with 19 fatalities among passengers and crew. Etihad Airways Adds Second Daily Flight to Rome

Abu Dhabi, UAE, February 22, 2018:  Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), today announced the addition of a second daily direct flight from its Abu Dhabi hub to Rome, effective 25 March 2018. The new service will take the total number of Etihad Airways’ flights on the route to 14 a week.   The additional frequencies will be introduced in phases, beginning 25 March 2018, with five extra weekly flights, rising to a twice-a-day service from 1 May 2018.   The double-daily schedule will provide greater choice to local passengers travelling between the capital cities of the UAE and Italy, and further increase connectivity to and from both countries.   The new early morning departure from Abu Dhabi and midday return service from Rome will offer links to popular cities ......read more

Finnair extends the operating period for its Chicago and San Francisco routes

Dubai, UAE, February 21, 2018:  Finnair is extending the operating period for both its Chicago and San Francisco routes during the upcoming fall. The Helsinki-Chicago route will be extended until December 3 with two weekly flights. Originally, the route was set to operate from April 19 until October 27. Chicago is the largest city in the American Midwest and a global hub for business, leisure and the arts. Finnair started a seasonal service to Chicago during the summer of 2015. The Helsinki-San Francisco route will now be extended until December 5 with two weekly frequencies. Finnair opens direct flights to Minsk, the capital of Belarus

Dubai, UAE, February 21, 2018:  Finnair is expanding its network and will open a direct, year-round route between Helsinki and Minsk on June 9, 2018. Flights between Helsinki and Minsk will be operated twice per week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, with an Embraer 190 aircraft. Emirates to operate first ever A380 to Beirut

Historic one-off flight to test airport’s A380 operations and readiness  Dubai, UAE, 20 February 2018:   For the first time in Rafic Al Hariri International Airport’s history, Emirates will operate a special one-off A380 service to Beirut on 29 March. Emirates SkyCargo transports first space satellite manufactured in the UAE

Dubai, UAE, 15 Feb 2018-   Emirates SkyCargo, the freight division of Emirates, has transported KhalifaSat- the first satellite developed and built by Emirati engineers in the UAE at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC). As the first step in its journey to space, KhalifaSat was flown from Dubai to Incheon International Airport in South Korea on an Emirates SkyCargo Boeing 777 freighter aircraft that was specially chartered for the occasion.
